Supported freeware licenses
The tables cover the following information about software licenses:
- License name - the software license name as detected by Spectra Assure and displayed in analysis reports. Corresponds to the standardized SPDX short-form identifier.
- License contents - link to the official SPDX website with the full text of the software license. Special, customized licenses that contain
LicenseRef-rlsecure
in the name do not have entries on the SPDX website. You can view a generic description for such licenses on each license family page. - License family - the license family that the individual software license belongs to based on its characteristics. Corresponds to one of the predefined license families.
- Policies triggered - indicates the default policy configuration setting for the license. Some licenses are configured to always trigger a policy and raise an issue in the SAFE report. All licenses in the Weak Copyleft family always trigger the SQ12103 policy for dependencies. All licenses in the Copyleft family always trigger the SQ12101 policy for software components. If this field is empty, that means no policies are triggered by default for the license. However, users can customize the policy configuration at any time to override the default settings.

Generic license descriptionโ
A freeware software license typically allows users to download, install, and use the software at no cost. Unlike open-source licenses, freeware licenses typically do not grant users the right to access, modify, or distribute the software's source code. The software commonly remains the intellectual property of the creator, who retains all rights except for the permission granted to use the software freely. There is no agreed-upon set of rights, license, or EULA that defines freeware unambiguously, meaning that every publisher defines its own rules for the freeware it offers. Some permissive licenses that have limitations or restrictions are also categorized as freeware, as the limitations do not always fall in the same category. Examples of such restrictions are forbidding the use of software in certain environments or countries. Freeware is often distributed to increase the software's user base, promote brand recognition, or serve as a complementary offering to other paid products or services. While the software itself is free, it may come with certain limitations, such as restricted features, advertisements, or prompts to upgrade to a paid version with additional functionalities.
